101 favorite songs of this century (so far)

Introduction

When listening to music of the 60s or 70s, the comment section on YouTube sometimes makes me cringe. Comments like “now that‘s real music”, “people in those days could really sing” and the best of all “I am young, but I wished I lived in that era. Today’s music is plastic, autotune and rubbish”. I found these comments are far from the truth and even a little mondain.

Yes, it’s true that nowadays a lot of rubbish is made. But that’s not specific of today. In every decade, most music that is made, isn’t good. But we keep the best parts and sometimes songs that weren’t popular, became popular afterwards.

It’s often easier to listen without prejudice, when you have no relation to it. Like the songs before you were born. But within your time, it’s harder to brush away the image an artist have. It’s no coincidence that George Michael called one of his best albums “Listen without prejudice”, put away the image of a teenage idol with years of success in the band Wham!.

Now Harry Styles, Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber have gone through a similar phase, but made excellent albums in recent years. After all, it doesn’t matter, how the wind blows, just listen. Here are my 101 favorite songs of this century so far.
